Downspouts
channel the water from the gutter to the ground or to the underground
pipe system. Sizing downspouts for your project is important. If the
downspout is to small it will cause water to over flow the gutter or
not spaced properly. The larger and steeper the roof area the larger
the downspout you need! Downspout sizes are measured in inches.
Downspout size is determined
according to the roof area:
2x3
inch downspout will suffice for 500 square foot of roof
3x4
inch downspout will suffice for 1,100 square foot of roof
4x5
inch downspout will suffice for 1,900 square foot of roof
Spacing
downspouts Rules of Thumb:
2"x
3" square and 3" round = space every 30ft
3"x
4" square and 4" round = space every 40ft
4"x
5" square = space every 50ft
